The importance of Townlands in Irish Genealogy

The key to your Irish Family History search lies in part to the name of the townland where your family lived.  Census data, land records and vital records are organised by territorial units so knowing this information should improve your search results.

Even if you can narrow the location to county your chances of finding records will improve.  The search facility on this page will hopefully help pinpoint the area your ancestor lived.  To learn more about the terminology, Barony, PLU etc, check out my A-Z Ready Reckoner.
